The history of Russian Samovar starts well before the restaurant itself. Originally Jilly’s Canteen, and owned by friend of Frank Sinatra, Jilly Rizzo, Samovar was the go to hot spot for Sinatra and The Rat Pack. In homage to Sinatra, Johnny Carson, and the good old boys, we decided to maintain the original red banquettes from back in those days. We also preserved the original bar as featured in The Manchurian Candidate and even unearthed original artwork from the talented people who frequented Jilly’s before we were fortunate enough to acquire this landmark location.
RUSSIAN SAMOVAR PRESENTS CHIHIRO TAINAKA "DINNER & SHOW"
Monday, April 7th, 2025
7:30 PM -9:00 PM
Chihiro Tainaka is a classic jazz singer with influences such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae and repertoire from The Great American Songbook. As a student, Chihiro played in rock bands in Japan. She then played in a blues band, and became interested in jazz in her 30s.
Chihiro first experienced authentic live jazz in New York City in 2011 before moving here permanently in 2013. Soon thereafter, she began performing jazz professionally, and continues to do so at clubs, jazz bars, restaurants and events. Chihiro has performed and collaborated with many currently active New York jazz musicians, directly absorbing the New York sound and continuing to grow.
RUSSIAN SAMOVAR PRESENTS NATASCHA BUSCHMANN "DINNER & SHOW"
Tuesday, April 8th, 2025
6:30 PM -8:00 PM
Born and raised in Manhattan, Natascha has loved Broadway and singing for as long as she can remember. While studying Musical Theatre at Northwestern University, she joined one of their premier a cappella groups, Purple Haze, where her passion for music grew to include contemporary, pop, and rock music. These days, Natascha is most often found singing at Don’t Tell Mama, or other piano bars across the city. Her love of community and blending tradition with contemporary style serves as the heartbeat of her journey, infusing her with vibrancy and creativity both on and off stage.
In case you needed an excuse, join us for National Martini Day June 19th!
Branzino and county styled lamb were excellent. Service was very attentive. The ambiance was even better once the live piano music began.
Fantastic place for fine dining on the northwest edge of the theater district...In my case, I had a Georgian savory spiced cheesy bread as a starter (Khachapuri), and then delightfully spiced, grilled lamb lollypops (Karski) which were fantastic, wrapping things up with a lovely apple strudel...
We had Mushroom Vol Au Vent for a late night snack and Soviet Stardard Infused Cocktails... oh soooo ver good!!! Music was on par with the sooo good!
...I had the BEST beef stroganoff of my life, and my boyfriend had some of the best chicken kiev he's ever had. My boyfriend's mom is vegetarian and had appetizers for her meal, which she was thoroughly satisfied with...
